# Molecule Icon Maker > Free, client-side tool that turns a SMILES string, a common molecule name or a structure file into a clean molecule icon and downloads it as SVG, PNG, JPEG, PDF, ICO or a ZIP. No sign-in, no model, no upload: parsing, layout and drawing all run in the browser. URL: https://molecule-icon-maker.skillsafe.ai/ ## Input - SMILES (organic subset, bracket atoms with isotopes, charges and hydrogen counts, aromatic lowercase atoms, ring closures including %nn, branches, dot-separated salts). Errors name the character position. - 121 built-in molecules searchable by name, synonym or CAS number (caffeine, aspirin, dopamine, cholesterol, vitamin C, amino acids, DNA bases, C60 and more). Anything else gets a prefilled PubChem search link to copy its SMILES from. - MOL and SDF files (V2000 and V3000), MOL2, PDB (CONECT records or bond inference by distance) and XYZ. The file's own coordinates are used; 3D files rotate in 3D. - Batch: a CSV, TSV or .smi list (up to 500 rows) or a multi-record SDF becomes a ZIP of icons plus a CSV with formula and molecular weight. ## What it draws - Styles: ball and stick, skeletal (line formula with heteroatom labels and implicit hydrogens) and space-filling. - 2D depiction (regular ring polygons, fused and bridged rings, zig-zag chains, overlap clean-up; cages are drawn as a 3D projection) or an approximate 3D shape with drag-to-rotate. The 3D shape is an estimate for icons, not a computed conformation. - Atom colours: Jmol, classic CPK, pastel, neon, one colour, two colours, line art; per-element colour, size and a text or emoji label. - Bonds: thickness, split or single colour, double and triple bonds or single sticks, Kekule or circle aromatic rings. Outline thickness and depth; flat, shadow, gloss or sphere shading. - Background: none (transparent), circle, rounded square, squircle, square or hexagon, solid or gradient, padding and border. ## Output - SVG (vector), PNG (64 to 2048 px), JPEG, one-page PDF, ICO (16 to 256 px) and an icon pack ZIP (16 to 1024 px PNGs, SVG, favicon.ico). - Formula (Hill order) and molecular weight from standard atomic weights. - Settings as a JSON file, a share link (SMILES and style in the URL fragment) and in this browser. ## Limits - Stereo marks (@, /, \) are read but not drawn. - PDB files carry no bond orders, so their bonds are drawn single.
